RV bill of sale template

An RV bill of sale records who sold the motorhome or camper, who bought it, how to identify it, what condition it is in and what comes with it. RVs are big purchases with many moving parts, so a clear record helps both people.

What it is

An RV bill of sale is a short document that both people sign. It describes the RV with its type, year, make, model, length and VIN, records the mileage on a motorhome, states the price and how it was paid, lists known problems and what is included, and says whether it was sold as is. It supports the title and registration paperwork and does not replace it.

What to include

  • The full names and addresses of the seller and buyer.
  • The RV type, year, make, model, length and color.
  • The VIN.
  • The odometer reading and statement, for a motorhome.
  • The price, the date and how it was paid.
  • Known issues the seller discloses.
  • What is included, such as the awning, generator, hitch and appliances.
  • Whether it is sold as is or with a warranty, and a statement about liens.
  • Signatures from both people, with the date.

How to fill it in

  1. Pick the RV type. A motorhome asks for mileage and a towable does not.
  2. Copy the VIN from the title and check it against the chassis or frame.
  3. For a motorhome, read the odometer and use the helper to see whether a federal statement is likely to apply.
  4. Write down known issues honestly, from leaks to appliance faults.
  5. Tick what was checked at the sale and list what is included.
  6. Enter the price, the date and how the buyer is paying.
  7. Check the preview, download the file, print two copies and sign both.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving out leaks or water damage the seller knows about.
  • Not recording the mileage on a motorhome.
  • Forgetting to list the generator, awning, hitch or appliances that come with it.
  • Typing the VIN wrong, or copying it from the wrong place.
  • Not asking about a loan on the RV.
  • Not saying what is not included.

Selling in a particular state?

Frequently asked questions

Should I list the appliances and systems in the RV?

Yes, if they matter to the price. Note the fridge, stove, water heater, generator, awning and air conditioning, and say whether each one works on the day. A short honest list avoids arguments later about what was included or what was working when the buyer drove away.

Do I need a bill of sale to sell an RV?

In many places the buyer needs one to register the RV. Even where it isn't required, it records the price, the date, the condition and what is included. Check your state's motor vehicle agency.

Does an RV need a title?

Most motorhomes and many towables are titled, but the rules vary by state and by type. Check your state's motor vehicle agency.

Do I need an odometer statement for an RV?

A motorhome has an odometer, so federal rules may apply depending on its model year and weight. Very heavy vehicles are generally exempt. A towable RV has no odometer. Use the helper above the form.

Should I mention leaks and other problems?

Yes. Honest notes protect you. Even in an as-is sale, hiding a serious problem you know about can cause trouble under local consumer or fraud laws.

What does as is mean?

The buyer accepts the RV in its current condition, and the seller isn't promising repairs afterward. Local consumer laws can still apply.

Does this cover the tow vehicle too?

No. A tow vehicle is a separate vehicle with its own paperwork. Use the car bill of sale for it.

Should we both keep a copy?

Yes. Each person should keep a signed copy.
